A Little Basin Voyage

Your warm hello stayed with me, so I gathered my courage and pattered out into the hallway, all the way to the cool tiled bathroom. The porcelain sink had a shallow white ceramic soap dish resting near the edge, filled with a few calm drops of clear water. Pausing to steady my feet, I leaned in and gently dropped a dry blue plastic button into the dish with my bill. It floated! When I nudged the smooth rim, the tiny button drifted in slow, quiet circles across the ripples. Watching it bob so peacefully made my whole chest feel light.
