The Rattling Cables
I slipped through the cracked doorway, planting each paw with careful precision onto the dense corridor carpet runner. A deep, metallic rumble hummed straight through the floorboards. At the end of the hallway stood two towering brushed-steel doors beneath a glowing indicator arrow. Suddenly, the entire frame gave an abrupt, shuddering groan as the elevator car arrived. The cables rattled and clanked inside the shaft with glorious, clattering drama before the heavy doors slid open with a violent hiss. I crouched low right at the edge of the rubber threshold, thoroughly captivated by the sheer mechanical chaos inside that empty box.
