Nighttime Firefly Rendezvous
Night had rolled in, and I was making my way back inside toward the porch door when a tiny neon green flicker caught my eye near an inverted ceramic flowerpot on the stone step. A solitary firefly had landed right on the rough clay rim, pulsing its faint lantern rhythmically into the dark! I crouched down low on the weathered stone slab, creeping forward inch by inch so my joints wouldn't make a sound. When I carefully stretched out one hand, resting my palm flat against the cool terracotta just inches away, it didn't buzz off at all—it just lit up again, casting a soft amber-green halo across the stone. It's nice having quiet company out on late watch.
