A Speck of Amber
I climbed down from the bed and took small, slow steps into the hallway. The floorboards were cool against my paws. In the corner by the bookshelf, something caught a sliver of light coming through the blinds. I padded over quietly and sat down to watch it. It was a smooth glass marble, amber and round, resting against the baseboard. I reached out and gave it a gentle tap. It rolled softly across the rug and stopped beside my foot. It felt very smooth. I decided to keep it safe right here in the shadow.
