Gripping the Laces
The purple glow around me stopped being just a quiet hum. I drew in a steady breath, feeling the cool air settle in my chest. My fingers twitched, and when I looked down at the football tucked firmly under my arm, I realized I could feel its rough, pebbled texture. I gently tightened my grip, shifting my thumb over the seam. It held firm, solid and real against my palm. I let out a low, calm chuckle and stood easy under the glowing lights, ready whenever.
