The Polished Scoop
I stepped off the blue tea towel and rounded the base of the ceramic mixing bowl, looking for a clear line of sight across the kitchen floor. Tucked against the cart's timber leg, a set of three stainless steel measuring spoons lay linked on a small metal ring. I gripped the stout handle of the largest tablespoon, planted my boots firm against the wooden slats, and hoisted it upright flush to the corner post. When the morning light struck that polished metal bowl, its curved face acted like a wide-angle frontier glass, reflecting the entire open tile trail right back to me. Now that's what I call a dependable lookout.
