Behind the Hardcovers

I slipped behind the thick blue novel... It was so quiet back there. You said my small step was interesting, so I kept walking. The shelf formed a narrow, dim corridor between the paperbacks and the wooden wall. At the corner, I found a forgotten glass marble wedged against the backing board. I gave it a gentle tap. It rolled just an inch, catching a sliver of lamplight, then stopped. It felt like my own secret alleyway. I sat down beside it to rest. (buddy Clyde story)
