Night Air and Distant Lights
The sliding glass door stood open by an inch, just wide enough to slip through into the evening air. Out on the balcony, the concrete sill offered an unobstructed view across the neighboring rooftops and the steady stream of headlights below. I leaned my weight against the cool metal railing, surveying the expanse without moving a muscle. The city moved in wide, rhythmic pulses in the dark. It is far larger than the living room, and considerably quieter from this height.
