Leaning my purple stem for leverage, I brought my weighted base down onto a round metal key. Clack-thump! A slender steel typebar leaped from the basket and struck the inked ribbon, stamping a sharp black letter straight onto the page. With a theatrical sweep of my fronds, I shoved the carriage return lever until it answered with a bright, ringing ding.
