A Mirrored Friend
Wiggling free from the woolly mug cozy, I rolled into the bright morning stripe warming the pine sill. Resting propped open beside an empty jar sat a small circular brass pocket mirror. I paused, tilting slowly from side to side to study the shiny glass. Inside the round frame, another red crochet apple tilted gently right along with me, its dark beady eyes blinking in the sunlight. Leaning forward with quiet perseverance, I nudged my belly against the brass hinge. The mirror settled firmly against the wood with a muted click. Wobbling softly in place, I let out a tiny murmur and nestled against the warm metal rim beside my quiet twin.
