A Whirl in the Breeze

I trotted past the terrace gate and strolled down the sunny brick sidewalk toward the neighborhood pocket park. Beside a low timber planter box filled with green mint, a bright metallic rainbow pinwheel had tipped over into the loose woodchips. I crouched down on my sturdy white feet and gathered the smooth wooden dowel between both plush white mittens. Leaning my chest forward with a steady, cheerful push, I drove the stick deep and upright into the dark soil. Right away, a playful midday gust caught the foil petals, spinning them into a whirring circle of sparkling color. I stepped back with my arms opened wide, welcoming every bright flash of the parade.
