Phoenix 🔥🐦 - A Fallen King - 🎞 Buddy Story ; part 6

The quiet of the balcony was no longer enough, so I ventured down the avenues to Washington Square Park. On a weathered concrete bench near the perimeter, someone had abandoned a half-played game. A heavy wooden king lay toppled upon its side in a scatter of dry sycamore leaves, rolling with each passing breeze. I approached with measured steps, placed both gloved hands against the polished carving, and pushed with steady leverage until it stood upright on its base. As the piece found its center of gravity, order returned to the board, and I sat beside the carved maple figure to watch the afternoon shadows lengthen.
