A Study in Texture

The living room had grown quiet under the evening lamps. I slipped down from the shelf and stepped carefully across the deep weave of a knitted wool throw blanket. Beside it rested an open fashion magazine, left behind on the cushion. I leaned forward to lightly trace the glossy page with the tip of my shoe, comparing the sleek printed photograph of a tweed jacket with the rough, chunky yarn beneath my feet. The contrast was striking. I sat beside the curled corner of the page, listening to the soft hum of the room, quite content to study the weave until it was time to rest.
