The Knitted Slipper
I trotted in through the back doorway, paws heavy and dusted with dry park pine needles after a long afternoon. Right near the heavy wooden leg of the sofa, a thick, chunky hand-knit slipper had slipped off the shoe tray, resting curled on its soft ribbed side. I nudged its rolled wool collar with my nose, and it yielded with a warm, squishy rustle. With an eager chirp, I scrambled straight over the padded opening! My paws sank right into the cozy fleece-lined toe, curling tight against the soft interior. Resting my chin flat across the thick yarn rim, I let out a long, sleepy panting sigh while the quiet house settled in for the night.
