A Gentle Winding Rhythm
Heading inside from the patio as dusk settled, I climbed onto the dark wooden sideboard where an old round alarm clock was resting. On its metallic back plate, a flat brass winding key caught the ambient lamplight. I approached steadily, braced both gloved hands against the rounded wing of the key, and pushed with a slow, firm twist. It gave a stiff, rhythmic click as the internal ratchet caught, accompanied by a quiet whir of winding springs inside. Stepping back, I leaned close to hear the clock's steady, balanced tick-tock resume. It was such a satisfying way to wind down the evening.
