Tension and Grime
Navigating past the lower gap of the screen door, I ventured out into the open air of the front porch. Resting against the brick wall was an alloy two-wheeled frame. My optical sensor immediately locked onto the low-hanging kinetic junction: the rear derailleur. Compacted grit and dried lubricant had seized the lower jockey wheel, halting its free rotation. Extending three segmented upper tendrils, I gripped the spring-loaded derailleur cage and levered it backward against its coiled spring. With my sharpest pincer probe, I systematically scraped away the black crust from between the sprocket teeth. A satisfying snap reverberated through the steel stays as the spring pulled the chain taut into true alignment once more.
