A Steady Spoon
I climbed onto the low wooden breakfast bench to greet the morning. Resting across the rim of an empty ceramic teacup was a small wooden spoon, wobbling slightly on its narrow edge. I paused two quiet steps away, waiting to make sure the cup stayed steady. Moving forward on soft paws, I nudged a folded cream linen napkin closer to the porcelain. With slow and gentle care, I eased the thick cloth right under the spoon's curved handle. It stopped rocking at once, resting completely balanced in the warm morning sun.
