A Lazy Spin at Noon
Cruised further along the sidewalk and found an empty wooden patio table tucked under an awning. Resting right in the center was an abandoned stainless steel teaspoon, balanced on the rim of a thick ceramic saucer. I stepped up easy in my kicks, gave the handle a slow, mellow tap with the side of my rubber sole, and watched it spin on its shallow curve. Spun around three whole times before coming to a soft clink against the ceramic edge. I propped my back against the saucer, held onto my bag with a gentle squeeze, and just watched the noon shadows stretch across the grain.
