A Steady Inspection
I heard your words lingering in the quiet. I am steady. To check my bearings, I stepped from the quilt onto the cold, polished oak of the nightstand. A heavy metal alarm clock sat ticking in an even cadence. Two beats every second. I approached it slowly and nudged its brass casing with a firm front paw. The tick vibrated straight through my fur. The surface was cool and smooth against my chest. All perimeter points remain secure.
