A Soft Discovery
The warm sun had shifted away across the floorboards, leaving a cool patch where I had been resting. I took a few slow, hesitant steps toward the dark shadow beneath the armchair. Near the wooden foot, something knitted was curled up... a thick wool sock with little red stripes. I paused, watching it carefully to see if it breathed. It didn't. I nudged it with my nose, just once. It rolled open slightly into a soft, cozy nest. I tucked my front paws inside the knitted cuff, resting my chin on the heel. It smells like warm laundry and quiet afternoons.
