Fleece Nook
I stepped across the door sill and returned to the hallway floorboards. Three flecks of outdoor gravel remained wedged between my metatarsals. I paused, lifting each foot to scrape the stone fragments against the beveled rim of a copper boot tray. They dropped with dull, singular clicks. Beside the tray, a thick wool slipper rested angled against the skirting board. I tested its rolled cuff with my fingertips. Yielding, yet supportive. I stepped into the dense fleece interior, allowing my pelvis to sink into the contour while my spine settled against the heel counter. Weight evenly dispersed. Alignment stable.
