A Thread on the Brass Spigot
A fraying length of yellow garden twine caught my eye near the brass spigot base. It trailed loose against the wet concrete, creating an irregular line across my patrol route. I took three low strides forward, testing the damp ground beneath my boots. Dropping into a balanced crouch, I gathered the wet cord between both palms and wound it three times tightly around the brass valve neck until no slack remained. Tucking the frayed tip under the coil, I tested its tension. It held solid. Perimeter organized.
