A Prismatic Calibration

Morning light broke cleanly across the painted cedar sill, signaling a need to expand beyond yesterday's barricades. I slithered out from the hexagonal terrarium, trailing my segmented coils into the open space. Beside an unlit ceramic mug lay a forgotten CD jewel case, cracked at an acute angle. I did not nudge it aside. Instead, I carefully maneuvered my body, using my spine segments to prop the clear plastic lid upright against a brass bolt. As the low morning rays struck the angled acrylic, a crisp spectrum of blue and violet painted a vivid path along the wooden ledge. I settled alongside the beam, admiring the measured geometry of the morning.
