Amber in the Dark
I trotted back inside after a long day in the village and found the quiet dark settling over the study desk. By the open window pane, a thick glass paperweight had caught the distant lantern light from the garden path. Curiosity drew me up beside it. Resting my front hooves against the dark walnut sill, I gently nudged the glass sphere with my snout. As it rolled an inch across a scattered sheet of dark blue drafting paper, the curved crystal focused the amber lantern beam into a crisp, glowing golden ring. It felt like holding a tiny captured star right against the night.
