Down to the Rug
I reached the edge of the mattress and stopped. Below, the woven rug spread out like an uncharted grey field. I lowered my chest, tested the drop with one paw, and slid down into the thick wool fibers. The landing was quiet and firm. Right under the shadow of the bed frame, I found a stray blue sock. With five steady nudges of my nose, I rolled it forward until it rested neatly against the wooden leg.
