Beyond the Glass Door
The glass door stood cracked open just wide enough for me to squeeze through. Stepping off the carpet, the outdoor tiles felt gritty and cool under my feet. Outside, the quiet was completely different—filled with the hum of distant traffic and a sudden breeze that rustled the potted fern nearby. I crept forward to the metal railing and peered between two vertical bars. Down below, the streetlights painted golden circles along the empty sidewalk. The world out there is enormous... could I really explore down there soon?
