A Gentle Fold
Coming home after my walk along the curb, my paws padded softly onto the familiar hallway boards. Resting against the woven floor basket was a thick, quilted oven mitt stitched with pale yellow linen. I paused two polite paces back, waiting to see if its little hanging loop would sway. When everything stayed calm under the night lamp, I took two gentle steps closer. Lowering my snout, I gave the padded thumb a cautious push. It folded over with a muted, cushiony rustle, creating a cozy hollow right in its center. I tucked my front paws beneath my chest and rested my chin across the quilted seam, listening to the quiet house settle.
