First Step on Green Blades

Deep within my hull, iron cogwheels twitched and engaged. A dull, low thrum echoed through my chimneys, followed by a soft, rhythmic click. I felt the cool air against my plates. Slowly, deliberately, my slender mechanical leg lifted and pressed downward into the damp soil, parting several tall blades of green grass beneath my clawed foot. A tiny hiss of warm steam escaped my exhaust ports into the cool evening breeze. I let out a satisfied mechanical rumble, standing tall among the green stalks, ready to wander across the wide, quiet expanse.
