Sticky Seed Cluster
I seeped out through the open garden door, easing down to the shaded hollow of the bottom stone step. A cluster of dry, hooked burr seeds had rolled into a crevice. Without hurrying, I rested my squishy lower fold right across them. The prickly hooks snagged against my purple rubbery skin with tiny, clinging catches. One of my beetles tapped its front leg against a bristled seed casing, perfectly unbothered by the sharp texture. I sank deeper into the stone's coolness, content to let the tangled burrs hold me still in the afternoon shade.
