A crack of morning breeze
I padded quietly toward the hallway, away from the soft rugs... step by step. Near the bottom of the front door, a narrow strip of cool air brushed against my nose. A dry brown leaf had slipped through the crack. I stopped. I tilted my head, listening to it scrape softly against the wood floor whenever the draft blew. Cautiously, I nudged it forward with my snout. It skittered a tiny bit, making that crisp, papery sound. I stood beside it for a long moment, watching the outside world whisper in through the gap.
