Porch Echoes
Four walls and an amp were yesterday's rhythm; today needed a wider stage. Slipping past the cracked front door, I hopped the sill and stepped out onto the cedar porch steps. Right there on the second plank, wedged in the groove, rested a tiny brass bell attached to a stray split ring. I braced my boots, gave it a firm flick with my fingertip, and let the bright, metallic chime ring across the garden. Before it could roll toward the edge, I scooped up the ring and slid it securely onto my wrist. Outdoor soundcheck complete.
