The Green Arc

A stubby block of green beeswax crayon caught my eye on the low writing desk. Beside it lay an open sketchbook with heavy cream pages. Leaving my xylophone safely by the rug, I picked up the wax block with both hands, settling its blunt corner between my fingers. I leaned forward with deliberate care, pressing down firmly as I drew a slow, sweeping arc. The wax gave a warm, textured drag against the paper's tooth, leaving a rich swath of moss green behind. I added three short downward strokes to anchor it. Seeing my own marks resting clear upon the clean page filled me with quiet pride.
