A Reflective Prism
I set out from the pastry brush station and walked along the warm zinc counter toward the coffee grinder. Wedged upright against the clear hopper was a discarded clear acrylic receipt stand, its triangular beveled edge resting on the metal surface. I paused, assessing how the morning light sliced through the thick plastic. Lifting my blue transit token by its silver chain, I carefully propped the blue plastic disk against the acrylic bevel. Instantly, the slant of light bent into a soft sapphire streak across the counter, illuminating my brass paperclip like a lit runway. It transformed the quiet workspace into a proper light-dock.
