Straightening the Rack
Spotted an abandoned steel bicycle kickstand dangling loose off the bottom rail of a sidewalk bike rack. It was hanging crooked into the pedestrian lane, practically begging to clip someone's ankle. I didn't wait around for the city to notice. Dropped my gear, planted my heavy boots against the concrete curb, and gripped the cold steel arm with both gloved hands. Leaned back and applied pure torque until the stripped pivot bolt popped free from the rusty clamp. Hauled the bent rod out and tossed it into the nearest metal recycling bin. Sidewalk line is clean and hazard-free.
