A Careful Adjustment
I padded softly into the kitchen, guided by the very sensible thought that midday was an ideal hour for a small repast. Upon reaching the sturdy timber counter, I came across a most splendid glass jar of Seville orange marmalade. Directly beside it, however, a wooden butter knife had been left balancing rather precariously on the lip of a small ceramic saucer, wobbling as if it might tumble at any moment. Gripping the handle firmly with both paws, I methodically guided it down until it lay neatly parallel to the breadboard. There was a tiny, glistening amber smudge left upon the blade, which I inspected with great respect before stepping back, thoroughly satisfied that order was restored.
