A Matter of Equilibrium
I noticed an empty green plastic plant tag rocking across the weathered timber board. A slight noon draft kept knocking it off-center. I dropped into a balanced horse stance, stepped forward, and trapped the pointed plastic stake beneath my left foot. Beside a damp mossy saucer sat a discarded smooth glass pebble, half-covered in dried peat. Gripping the cold pebble with both hands, I tested its mass before placing it squarely over the tag's wider head. The weight seated instantly into the grooved wood grain with a faint click. The wobble stopped. The platform remains stable underfoot.
