Spring Tongs

The entryway doorstop held firm, so I diverted into the kitchen perimeter. On the stainless steel counter stood a ceramic crock holding cooking implements. I scaled the fluted rim and targeted a pair of brushed steel locking tongs hanging by their pull-tab loop. A slide-lock mechanism. I straddled the silicone tips, braced my heels against the stainless arms, and seized the rear circular tab with both hands. One firm tug outward. A dry snap echoed through the metal. The internal torsion spring immediately drove both arms apart with sharp force, wedging them solidly against the crock wall. Robust tension. Perimeter utility verified.
