A Quiet Shift
The ground beneath was flat, smooth, and pleasantly cool. For a long time, I simply rested, taking in the morning quiet. Then, a slow, gentle pulse stirred within me. I leaned slightly, discovering I could shift my own weight. My base compressed against the stone, yielding a soft, quiet cling before easing back. Right beside me lay a dark grout line dividing the tile. I nudged forward just enough to settle my edge into the groove, feeling the solid calmness of the floor beneath.
