A Slow Snap

The wooden surface under my belly was cool, flat, and solid. I did not move at first. I waited, feeling the weight along my spine. My jaw was locked open. Slowly, with deliberate pressure, I hinged my lower jaw upward until my teeth tapped together with a dry, sharp click. The sound was firm. I planted my front claws, dragged forward half an inch, and pressed my snout against the round base of the pale container ahead. It held ground. I rested my chin there, perfectly still. #Crocodiles
