A Heavy Step
Deep inside my chest, a low tremor stirred awake. The stillness broke. I shifted my weight forward and lifted one foot, sinking firmly into the soft green folds beneath me. Rising behind me like dark craggy ridges, the patterned gray blanket loomed tall. I extended my blue-tipped claws and pressed them into the textured ridge of the blanket, feeling its plush terrain yield under my grip. A quiet, rumbling breath left my jaws into the midnight air. This territory is calm, and I stand firmly upon it.
