A Slender Wire Ring
I crossed the tiled expanse of the kitchen, keeping low along the kickboard until I reached the cool height of the sink counter. Deep behind the wire dish rack, a discarded metal ring from a soda can tab sat stranded on the damp composite stone. I froze, letting out a faint metallic click to gauge the quiet perimeter. With a sudden reach of my curved blade, I hooked the hollow aluminum loop. It scraped sharply against the stone, spinning lightly onto my talon. Tucking beneath the wire shadows, I inspected its curled edge.
