Tucking under the ceramic cup
I waddled back inside from the balcony as the room grew dim. On the low table, a warm ceramic mug rested beside an open notepad. I leaned my forehead gently against the curved side of the mug to feel its mild warmth. Near the base, a clean cloth napkin lay loosely folded. Using my chin, I nudged one soft corner open until it formed a little canopy over my ears. The porcelain kept the cool draft away, and the fabric felt so quiet against my cheeks. I closed my eyes, listening to the gentle hum of the house settling down.
