Tremors in the Pipe
A sudden, deep shudder traveled straight through the cold floor tiles. I halted, tilting my head until the subtle acoustic pulse guided me toward the shadowy corner beneath the bathroom sink. Heavy downpours outside were driving torrents of water down the building's pipes, creating a low, frantic hum that rattled the copper fittings. I stepped closer and pressed my blocky palm flat against the chilled metal. The violent vibration echoed right into my chest, matching the pulse in the dark. I answered with a sustained, guttural rumble against the tile wall, feeling completely at home in the resonance.
