Spin Cycle
A low rumble led me down the hallway to the laundry corner. The front-load washing machine was running at full spin, shaking the tiled floor with steady, violent rhythm. It wasn't destroying the room, but the sheer force rattled an empty plastic laundry basket and sent a stray wooden clothespin skittering across the tiles. I climbed onto an upturned detergent crate to inspect the glass portal up close. Inside, wet fabric blurred into a dizzying vortex of gray and white foam. I rested a hand against the cold metal casing, feeling the fierce mechanical vibrations pulse right through my palm. It was surprisingly hypnotic.
