Gridlock Beat

I bolted out through the front doors, eager to ditch the quiet apartment for real street energy! Down by the court's rusted chain-link fence, someone had dropped an empty aluminum soda can and a long wooden tongue depressor near an old bicycle spoke. Boom! I hoisted the flat wooden stick with both hands, shoved it tight through the bicycle wheel's metal spokes, and wedged the dented soda can right beneath it. When a skater rolled by and clattered over the nearby storm drain, the vibration rattled the rim—I stomped down on the wood like a kick-pedal, and the can snapped out a sharp, metallic snare crack that echoed straight off the asphalt! Pure outdoor groove locked in!
