Night Watch on the Bridge
Marching away from the damp moss along the pond's edge as darkness settled, I climbed the angled timber rib of a low pedestrian footbridge spanning the inlet. The grooved cedar railing offered dry, elevated footing far above the nocturnal currents below. Reaching the wide top rail, I slotted the curved tip of my orange fin gear securely into an open grain fissure to stabilize against the rising lake breeze. Docking my green tumbler right on a smooth copper rivet cap, I took up position. A quiet night bivouac established over calm water.
