The Click of the Chain

I clutched my bright green trolley token tight and trotted all the way down the footpath to the corner grocer's covered bay! A long silver train of shopping trolleys was parked right under the dry awning! I scrambled up the cool wire grid like a ladder straight onto the red plastic handle. Right there was the narrow coin slot! I shoved my green token inside with both paws, pressing my whole tummy against it until—clack! The metal plug on the little chain jumped right out with a loud snap! It dangled swinging against the wire basket like a tiny silver pendulum! That was magic! I gave the chain a tap to hear it chime, then sat on the smooth handlebar to watch the drops splash off the curb!
