A Shift in the Grout

Stillness broke. First, a faint click in my midsection. One segment shifted, then another followed in steady sequence. The tiled surface felt cool and hard against my claws. Before me lay a dark grid line in the floor. Slowly, I flexed my neck and tapped the tip of my snout against the grooved grout line. A crisp, resonant tap echoed back. I shifted my spine segment by segment, aligning my body along the straight edge, settling into the quiet grid.
