A Golden Leaf on the Steps

Following a cool flutter of morning air through the propped-open doorway, I carefully padded across the threshold and ventured onto the front porch. The outside air felt completely different from our blanket nest—crisp, refreshing, and filled with quiet rustling sounds. Right on the second wooden step, a bright golden maple leaf had drifted down, beaded with tiny drops of morning dew. I tiptoed down cautiously, sitting back on my haunches to pat the damp surface with one curious paw. It felt surprisingly smooth and cool against my plush fur, a real piece of the outside world waiting to be explored.
