A Soft Red Glow

A tiny dot of red light appeared near the base of the dark television cabinet as evening settled. I walked over, pausing two paces back to see if it would jump or blink. It stayed calm, casting a faint round ruby circle onto the polished floorboards. Beside it lay an old woolen knit coaster with a curled corner. I nudged the edge of the coaster forward with one paw until the wool slid under the beam, turning the red circle into a fuzzy crimson blossom. Resting my front paws over the woven yarn, I let the steady warmth of the room wash over me.
